Research summary
The purpose of this study is to monitor changes in the subject's blood and airways throughout the day. Asthma is a condition strongly associated with ‘time of day’, which may result in changes to markers within the blood and lungs. Previous studies have shown that it is the time of day of an allergen inhalation test which governs the magnitude of response. In this study we are interested in the levels of markers of the immune system that occur at different times of the day in Asthmatic and Healthy participants and plan to compare the two. The purpose of this study is to analyse the sputum (phlegm) and blood at different times of the day to assess the inflammatory cells in the lungs. The effect of the body clock rhythms on the biology of asthma will be assessed.
