Research summary
Only some 3-5% of pigmented moles referred from primary care are found to be melanoma by the specialist dermatologist. Can technology help? Nomela® is a screening test, using a dedicated iPad and special signal processing of the digital image, capable of discriminating melanoma in pigmented moles and providing immediate results. Previous work (Moletest004) established ranges for the image characteristics such that the test separates approx. 50% as "no evidence of melanoma" giving reassurance that specialist referral is not required. More information is needed to enhance the confidence that the ranges chosen separate a useful group. This Study is to make retrospective nomela® tests on historic images of skin lesions confirmed as melanoma.
