Research summary
This is a questionnaire-based study to assess the quality of life and treatment side effects in men who completed treatment for testicular cancer 12-24 months ago and are in remission. Even in advanced forms, testis cancer is a very curable disease, and young men who survive testis cancer have a close-to-normal life expectancy. As such, recognizing the long term side effects of treatment and unaddressed healthcare needs is important for service planning. The questionnaire comprises a validated quality of life survey (Herdman, M. Development and preliminary testing of the new five-level version of EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L).Quality of Life Research), symptoms severity scores, patients opinions and options for free text. Comparisons will be made between 5 treatment groups: 1) orchidectomy (removal of testicle), 2) orchidectomy and carboplatin chemotherapy, 3) multi-drug chemotherapy, 4) RPLND (surgery to remove abdominal lymph nodes, a common site of testis cancer spread), 5) radiation and carboplatin.
EQ-5D-5L results will also be compared to published population norms.REC name
