Research summary
This is a single centre, case control study which aims to identify new urine and blood biomarkers in liver disease. Case group includes patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and NASH cirrhosis. The control group includes healthy volunteers - to be included they will have normal liver function tests and liver ultrasound scan.
Urine and blood samples for the study are required in one visit. Routinely patients with liver disease undergo blood tests to check their liver function and these samples will be extra for the purpose of the study. Participating in this study will require one visit only and that will be left to the participant. Following posting the PIS and a phone call, the participant will be given an option of either attending a dedicated research clinic or meeting after a routine clinic appointment arranged for their care at UHCW.
