  • Research summary

There are differences between symptomatic and asymptomatic contact lens wearers in the various tear components uptake by contact lenses. The difference can be detected after a single day of wear. If the association of the tear film biochemical markers found within the contact lens and symptoms identified can be confirmed, this could lead to development of a test to identify potential problematic new contact lens wearers. Thus this study is aimed at collecting contact lenses worn under controlled conditions for a period of 8 hours for biochemical analysis of the tear components taken up by the contact lens and to characterise the pre-contact lens tear film biophysical properties to identify the potential etiology of the dry eye complaint. \nThis study will be a single site study in UK involving 50 contact lens wearing participants; half will have dryness symptoms (symptomatic - Test) and the other half will have no symptoms (asymptomatic - control).\nThe study will involve two study visits over up to a one month period.
