Data collection arrangements
The TARPSWG Collaborative Studies Database will seek to collect data from patients who have been looked after at a hospital that is a member to the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group (TARPSWG) - a group of medical experts from across the world who specialise in Sarcoma.
At each TARPSWG centre, the local doctors and surgeons will find patients who meet the study entry criteria and will send data about them to University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). This data will be anonymous and will only be exactly the data that is needed and would have been collected when the patient was in hospital, such as the patient's age, the type of tumour they had, blood test results and information about their surgery. The patients will not be able to be identified from this data.
The data will be sent to UHB in a secure way, and experts at UHB will analyse the data and then share the results of the analysis with other hospitals. This will help improve the way that Sarcoma is treated and may help identify other areas for research.
Research programme
Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the bones and soft tissues, including fat, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, deep skin tissues and fibrous tissues. As it is a rare cancer, there is more research needed to improve the care and treatment of patients who have Sarcoma.
