  • Research summary

Anxiety and depressive disorders are the most common psychiatric disorders worldwide. Whilst a range of evidence based psychological treatments recommended in NICE guidelines can be very effective in treating these disorders, ~30% of adults treated are not disorder free at 6-month follow-up.

The primary purpose of the Talking Therapies Research Resource (TTRR) is to facilitate research investigating both psychological and biological risk factors associated with anxiety and depression, and predictors of response to psychological treatment. Patients aged 16 years or above that have been accepted onto a course of psychological therapy within a Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service will be able to sign up to the online Research Resource and become a member. They will be asked to complete core psychological screening questionnaires through the website, as well as to give a biological sample. The TTRR will therefore comprise a bank of clinical measures linked to biological samples, stored as part of the NIHR BRC BioResource for Mental and Neurological Health.

The secondary purpose of the TTRR is to create an online community of members undertaking similar psychological treatment through IAPT who are willing to be re-contacted. Firstly, this will act as an online platform for the recruitment of IAPT patients into further studies. To this end we have attached to this application documents outlining the protocol for studies wishing to collaborate with the TTRR. Secondly, we endeavour to support members by providing regular updates regarding research progress and useful links to websites and media.
