Research summary
Macular holes are an important and blinding retinal disease. Surgery can improve vision but the degree of improvement is variable. The effect of duration of symptoms on the results of surgery is unclear based on current evidence. This is important as macular hole surgery is currently not prioritised. We aim to carry out a meta-analysis of individual patient data from high quality prospective trials of patients undergoing macular hole surgery to investigate this question further.
