Research summary
The Southampton Women’s Survey (SWS) is a cohort study of mothers and their children. We aim to examine early life and developmental predictors of health and wellbeing, and preparation for parenthood during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. This is a pilot study with SWS participants to test the methods for a larger scale follow up at 17-19 years of age. In order to assess the acceptability and feasibility of our questionnaire, we will invite one hundred SWS participants who are aged 17 to 19 years to complete the questionnaire and to give feedback. In the full scale trial, we will also invite participants to a clinic and ask for consent for record linkage. While the clinic and the record linkage are not part of the pilot study, we will ask participants in the pilot study for feedback about these additional components and to say what they think about the consent forms. Findings from this pilot study will determine whether our questionnaire is acceptable to young people in our target age group (17-19 years) and whether any changes need to be made for the full trial. The feedback received will also help us to estimate how many participants are likely to attend a clinic and to understand how participants will feel about giving consent for data linkage.
