  • Research summary

Advances in medical technology have resulted in an increase in the detection of unexpected blood clots in the lung of patients with cancer. We are looking to see the effects these blood clots may have on the survival and quality of life of these patients, when compared to cancer patients without blood clots. We will also be performing laboratory tests to see whether certain markers carried in the blood or expressed on the tumours of these patients might be used to predict their risk of developing these clots. It is hoped that we can find a way to identify high-risk patients so we can treat them before these clots have chance to develop.
