Research summary
In general, the health of trans and gender diverse people is under researched. Specifically, there is very limited scientific evidence on contraceptive use and effectiveness amongst trans and gender diverse people.
This research study aims to examine the knowledge and experiences of contraception use amongst trans and gender diverse people. To our knowledge, this study will be the first in England.
There have been a few studies exploring the contraceptive use and experiences amongst trans and gender diverse people. However, to our knowledge, there have been no studies based in England. The generalisability of studies from other countries should be kept in mind as health systems differ and this can affect the availability of contraceptive options for individuals.
As discussed previously, there is a lack of research exploring contraception use amongst trans and gender diverse individuals. This research projects aims to improve scientific knowledge in this area. This will allow relevant health professionals to have better knowledge of the experiences of trans and gender diverse individuals and provide tailored sexual and reproductive healthcare to this population.
Our study will involve the use of an online survey and will be completed by eligible individuals. The survey will be completed through Microsoft forms. All data that is collected will be completely anonymous and stored securely. Involvement in the study
is voluntary, and participants can opt out of the survey at any point.REC name
