Research summary
In the long term, we wish to consider the feasability of performing a randomsied controlled trial of fetoscopic spina bifida surgery vs. standard postnatal surgery. Fetoscopic spina bifida surgery involves 'key hole' surgery on babies inside the womb.
However before we do so, it is important that we understand what pregnant women expect and what they do not. This will help us in designing a randomised trial. For example, a doctor may think that an important measure is the ability to walk. It may be that women don't place so much emphasis on this but think control of bowel function is much more important. If we have this information, we can then design our randomised trial such that it places more weight on bowel function.
