Research summary
Following a healthy diet and lifestyle is the best way to manage diabetes but these lifestyle changes are hard to achieve and to maintain. Existing services for people with diabetes are not set up in a way that fully supports people to make lifestyle and behaviour changes.
Our group has started a clinical service (NOT a trial) consisting of online dietary and behavioural coaching for individuals with type 2 diabetes living in the Hampshire/Surrey area of England. Once patients have been through the six-month programme, we wish to see how effective the programme has been. To do so, we want to compare routinely collected data from our participants (such as blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose) with similar data, over a similar time-frame, of people who haven't been through the programme (the control group). This application is to request permission to use the Royal College of General Practitioners national database - as the control group - against which to compare diabetes management and outcomes with our (local) intervention group.REC name
