  • Research summary

Family and paid carers of adults diagnosed with intellectual disabilities will be invited to participate in an interview about their caring experiences. Multi-perspectival Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (M-IPA) will be utilised to analyse transcripts, with the expectation that family and paid carers, while differing in specific experiences, will be “surfing the same wave”. Participants will be recruited from the open caseloads of one NHS specialist learning disability service, and necessary NHS research ethics committee, and specific Trust Research and Development (R&D) governance approvals will be sought.

Dr Fish will provide methodological oversight. Dr Hudson will provide specific methodological support in the implementation of an M-IPA study. Professor Dagnan will have overall oversight of the project and fulfil the role of Chief Investigator.
