Research summary
What is the problem?
The end of treatment is known to be a period of high stress for young people with cancer but little is known about what information and support young people need at this time point. What are our aims?
I) To explore the questions listed below with both healthcare professionals and young people who are finishing/have finished cancer treatment:
1. What information and support is currently provided for young people when they end treatment?
2. How is this information and support delivered?
3. Does the current provision of information and support for young people at the end of treatment meet their needs?
II) To use co-creation to develop a prototype intervention to support young people when treatment ends. How will we do this?
This study has four phases:
I)A review of existing literature will be undertaken to form the basis of interview schedules to be used in interviews and focus groups.
IIa) Healthcare professionals will participate in telephone interviews (n=10).
IIb) The interviews will inform the development of a survey for healthcare professionals, which will be distributed online to further consult up to 100 healthcare professionals.
III) Young people will participate in interviews and/or focus groups.
IV) A workshop involving young people, healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders will reflect on the evidence generated in the first 3 phases and develop recommendations on models of care delivery based on these findings.REC name
