Research summary
A proof-of-concept study to understand how suicidality is experienced by patients who are in the perimenopausal period.
It is known that psychological symptoms can flucutate in the perimenopause and that there is an increase in suicidality and rates of suicide in women in their 40s who are potentially perimenopausal. In this study we interview participants to understand more about the nature of their suicidal thoughts associated with the perimenopause. We will collect some quantitative measures around quality of life and menopausal depression but most data will be qualitative from a semi-structured interview. Suicidality in the perimenopause has not been specifically studied before and this will be a proof of concept study which will help the define the scope for further research.
