Research summary
The subglottic region of the voice box is a crucial area in infection, inflammation and cancers. We have previously successfully grown cells sampled from this region in studies looking at these problems. These cells however only have a limited lifespan outside of the body, then further samples are needed. These samples may also vary between people. We aim to 'immortalise' subglottic cells taken from a persons throat and grown in the lab. This will mean the cell can be grown indefinitely, saving resources and standardising the research experiments to one set of cells.
