Research summary
The aim of this study is to investigate the changes that occur following bariatric surgery in the cardiac performance. The focus of this study is to assess the systolic and diastolic function prior and post-bariatric surgery. The study of cardiac performance will be carried out by state-of-the-art echocardiography (including new tools such as speckle tracking and tissue Doppler). The cardiac assessment will be performed prior to surgery, immediately after and during follow up. This should lead to a greater understanding of the role of bariatric surgery not only in the improvement of cardiovascular risks factors but also in the cardiac performance.
