Research summary
This non-interventional research study will involve conducting qualitative interviews with patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs)who have been using a patient engagement tool as part of their routine health care. The study will involve a total of approximately 30 patients with T2DM and up to 20 health professionals (including GPs and nurses). They will be identified from up to 11 GP practices who have been using the tool.
Patients who are using this tool will be approached for consent to be interviewed. In the interviews participants will be invited to talk about their experiences with the patient engagement tool. HCPs will be encouraged to share their experiences of developing and implementing the engagement tool.
The aim will be to interview HCPs once and patients with T2DM twice. Interviews with patients and HCPs may take place in the primary care practice, at the patient’s home or via telephone, depending on their preference.Interviews will be audio recorded and transcribed. Transcripts will be analysed using specialist qualitative analysis software. The data will be coded and explored for anticipated and emerging themes by pH Associates (research consultancy).
