Research summary
Rationale: With technology advancing, online/digital cognitive assessments are evolving and being used more frequently. Yet little is known about the experience and perceptions of online cognitive screens/assessments from the direct perspective of service users, particularly older service users who have experienced a stroke.
Objective: We aim to investigate how older service users, who have had a stroke, experience an online cognitive screen. Outcomes will be used to develop practitioner recommendations for administering online assessments to this client group.
Method: The study will invite people who have had a stroke (recruiting from NHS services) to complete a cognitive screen called the Amsterdam Cognitive Scan (ACS). They will be asked to ‘talk aloud’ about their experiences whilst completing the cognitive screen. They will also be asked a few questions before and after the screen about their experiences. This will be video recorded using zoom (both with face to face and online platforms), with the participant’s consent, and will then be analysed using qualitative methods, such as thematic analysis.
Nature and extent of the burden and risks associated with participation, benefit, and group relatedness: There are no direct benefits for participants in this study, but their participation will contribute to a better knowledge of how service users perceive online cognitive assessments and give this population a voice. There are small potential risks that service users may find elements of the cognitive screen challenging, which may pose a psychological burden.REC name
