Research summary
The aim of this research project is to understand how an individual who has had a stroke walks and what could be the reasons for why they might have difficulty walking. This research is particularly focussed on the young adult of working age because there is little or no information available on how they can best get back to the activities they need to. We will measure how much energy a young adult who has had a stroke uses to walk and how their joints move when they walk. This will help us to develop specific rehabilitation guidelines that can help to improve the walking ability of a young adult who has had a stroke, enabling them to be more active and find day to day activities easier. We think this is a really important and a much-needed research study that will transform our understanding of how best to develop rehabilitation for people affected by stroke.
