Research summary
The problem is relatively poor health outcomes associated with multiple social disadvantages in our local population. Risks to health outcomes start early, some of these risks are modifiable, and there is urgent need for very early prevention projects. We will establish a community led network of social support and health education for local new mothers, pregnant or with infants, and male carers. The expected changes are improvements in social determinants of health and health of new parents such as reduction of isolation and of distress, increased health literacy and adherence to health advice, use of available services and confidence in parenting – and thereby benefit infant development and health outcomes through the life course.
