Research summary
The proposed study aims to explore the narratives of identity held by those with the diagnosis of moderate to severe dementia. It will employ the narrative practice of 'outsider witnessing' whereby the individual's wider care team will watch the audio-visual recording of an interview with the individual in a focus group. It is hoped the research will illuminate meanings of identity for those surrounded by less personalising processes as well as support their care staff 'see' these alternative stories. Outsider witnessing and its role in supporting people with a diagnosis of dementia can be explored.
