Research summary
The pilot study is a single centre observational design in which patients over the age of 70, willing to provide informed consent and scheduled for a cardiac intervention will be assessed for frailty and health related quality of life. Assessments will take place pre-procedure, 4 – 6 weeks post procedure and 6 months post procedure. Data analysis will allow us to define our population in terms of the impact on frailty and health related quality of life from baseline to early and late post procedure.
Cardiac interventions will include heart surgery (coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve replacements), device implant (pacemaker, ICD, CRTD therapy), and interventional cardiology procedures (stents, TAVI and MitraClip). We anticipate recruiting 125 patients over a 12 month period. If there are sufficient patient numbers in each of the interventional groups, it may be possible to undertake sub-group analysis.REC name
