Research summary
An epidemic of cardiovascular disease (CVD) resulting in increased morbidity and mortality is prominent among people of South Asian origin.Effective lifestyle interventions can reduce modifiable cardiovascular risk factors but current strategies are not tailored to culture specific care and are deemed insufficient to reduce health inequalities. The aim of this proposed study is to explore South Asian patients experience and beliefs in managing cardiovascular disease.Face to face semi structured interviews of approximately six to eight people attending lipid clinic will be conducted in this study. Interviews will be transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Findings from this study will support health professionals to identify and overcome cultural barriers to deliver culturally sensitive patient centred care.
