  • Research summary

Researchers are looking for a better way to treat large B-cell lymphoma. Large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is a fast-growing cancer that starts in B cells, which are a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infections. When these cells grow out of control, they can form tumours in different parts of the body. The most common type is diffuse LBCL, but there are other types as well. LBCL can happen at any age but is often diagnosed in older adults.

A type of chemotherapy called R-CHOP is a common treatment for LBCL. Although R-CHOP can work well for some people, it can cause
significant medical problems in some people. So, in some cases, doctors may give older patients or patients who are physically weak and in
poor health about half the dose of a typical R-CHOP treatment. This smaller dose is called R-mini-CHOP.

The trial drug AZD0486 is designed to help the body’s immune system find and attack cancer cells. Researchers think that giving AZD0486
after chemotherapy might help treat cancer better than chemotherapy alone. In this trial, researchers want to learn if giving fewer doses of
R-mini-CHOP when followed by AZD0486 is safer and works better than giving more doses of R-mini-CHOP by itself in people who are
older or have other medical problems.

There will be 2 parts to this trial. Part 1 will look at the safety of R-mini-CHOP followed by AZD0486 in a small group of older or physically
weak adults. If there are no major medical problems and the researchers think the treatment is helping in Part 1, the researchers will open Part 2 of the trial and give R-mini-CHOP followed by AZD0486 to a much larger group of older or physically weak adults.
