Research summary
Dental decay remains the most common reason for a child to be admitted to a hospital in England, yet the social media influencers of parents and carers of children has never been explored. With more families now choosing to access healthcare information online and with healthcare searches increasing by 33% since 2007, it is important that healthcare professionals respond and adapt the delivery of key messages.
This study aims to establish the media influencers of parents and carers of children requiring dental extractions under general anaesthetic and to gain an understanding of the way in which this cohort use social media and the internet to gain dental health information. The findings of this study will be used to recruit a team to create a media package optimised for sharing on social media. This national media campaign to improve children's oral health will be lead by Claire Stevens.REC name
