Research summary
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) affects daily lifestyle and can lead to dependency on others and depression.
Reducing the pain is a priority of the NHS but remains difficult to evaluate as assessment relies on the patient’ subjective description. Evaluation of joint swelling and stiffness remains the most objective symptoms and raises a significant challenge that is the availability and interval between clinicians’ appointments up to 6 months apart. Regular practice of physical activities and exercise can have great positive impact, not only on slowing down the progress of arthritis, but also on the overall wellbeing of the patient. During this study, patients who consent to take part will have the opportunity to record their pain and inflammation points in real time and their overall physical activity will be tracked using the capability of the smartphone.REC name
