  • Research summary

This study is a cluster randomised controlled trial undertaken within Primary Care Practices in the Bradford district. We will seek to recruit as many practices as possible included within the local (Bradford City and Bradford Districts) Care Commissioning Groups (CCG's). The aim of the study is to test the introduction of a simple electronic alert ('sick day' eAlert) to see if it can have an impact on the incidence of community acquired Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Practices will be randomised in equal numbers to a control group (practice as normal) and an intervention group (eAlert). For practices in the intevention group, an electronic alert will pop up on the computer screen, once patient details are entered during a face-to-face or telephone consultation, whenever pre-existing patient information suggests that the patient may be at an enhanced risk of developing AKI. The purpose of the alert is to prompt the GP into considering this risk when deciding upon appropriate patient management.
