Research summary
This project aims to explore whether a primary care-based physiologist would improve patient satisfaction and increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the NHS respiratory and sleep services in Wales.
There are three strands to this project outlined below:
Strand 1: Service Users. Service users from each health board in Wales will be recruited to participate in a 30 minute focus group. There will be on focus group in each health board with 6 participants.
Strand 2: GPs with an interest in respiratory or sleep. All GP practices in Wales will be contacted to ask who has an interest in respiratory or sleep within that practice, if no GPs are known to have an interest, though running respiratory or sleep clinics will be contacted. GPs will be emailed an online questionnaire to complete, taking approximately 5-10 minutes.
Strand 3: Secondary care head of department in respiratory/sleep laboratories. One clinically active head of department from each health board will be invited to complete 20 minute interview. The interview will be conducted in their place to work, and be from pre-selected hospitals based on geographical location and size of service.REC name
