Research summary
This project will evaluate if being eligible for and/or receiving a particular vaccine for Shingles has an effect on the risk of developing dementia. The National Immunisation Programme (NIP) rolled out Shingles vaccination for specific age groups across the UK from 2023, by using a design that assumes people just either side of the age cutoff are otherwise very similar, we will investigate if being eligible for or having the vaccine is linked to later dementia diagnosis. This project will be done by analysing de-identified, person level health data at secure data access locations across the UK.
