  • Research summary

Humber NHS Foundation Trust is spearheading the creation of a local Recovery College, a network of social opportunities that can be accessed by service users and the general public. Launching in September 2015, the College is a partnership with third sector organisations, voluntary groups and service users themselves. Nationally and internationally, the provision of recovery orientated educational programs delivered to groups has proved life changing for service users and successfully economical for service providers.

Many cities are developing Recovery College’s but research into their effectiveness and transformative power is still limited. A recent literature review noted that to date, despite their success in improving confidence and knowledge about recovery (Campbell and Gallagher, 2013), there remains little guidance on implementing recovery in practice. The authors attributed this to a lack of recovery vision by Recovery College managers.

This project proposes to undertake a Delphi study to gather consensus from a purposive sample of stakeholders managing and/or participating in existing Recovery Colleges within the UK to identify what factors they think best encapsulate the implementation of ‘Recovery’. The Delphi method consists of a number of rounds in which questionnaires are sent to a panel until consensus is reached upon a topic. All correspondence will be by email.
