Research summary
There is currently an absence of suitable outcome measures that are fit for use within Psychosexual Services. This makes it difficult for clinicians to quantify the improvement of individual patients, thereby it also impedes service development. The Psychosexual and Relationships Service at The Maudsley Hospital have recently developed a new questionnaire that measures sexual wellbeing, which the present study sets out to validate. In order to do this we will recruit two populations to complete a battery of outcome measures relating to sexual function and mental health. The first population will consist of adults from the general population who do not have a diagnosed sexual problem. The main purpose of this is to test whether our measure correlates to pre-existing measures related to sexual wellbeing, in order to see if it is measuring what we want it to. After this we will recruit a population from patients of The Maudsley Psychosexual Service, who will all have a diagnosed sexual problem. We will then determine whether scores on our measure correspond to the severity of sexual problems by comparing the scores of the patient population with those of the healthy general population. All participation will take place online, hosted on Qualtrics.
