Research summary
This project will focus on men who have sex with men (MSM) who are living with HIV, and their sexual wellbeing. Sexual wellbeing in this context is defined as an individual’s beliefs about their own sexuality, and what they consider to be enjoyable and satisfying experiences, and the absence of sexual problems (Foster & Bryers, 2013).
The research questions are:
1. How have participants’ experience of HIV, and subsequent medical interventions, impacted their perception of sexual wellbeing (including sexual difficulties, and sexual satisfaction)?
2. What are participants’ perceptions of how psychological interventions could support the sexual wellbeing of MSM living with HIV?This study will involve conducting semi-structured interviews, and analysing these using reflexive thematic analysis to understand common themes of sexual wellbeing for this population. This project aims to inform future therapies for MSM living with HIV, to create interventions for this population that is specific to their unique needs and challenges.
