Research summary
There is a growing evidence that sexual dysfunction is an aspect of psychosocial health care that is largely ignored and thus undiagnosed by Health Care Professionals during routine follow-up after treatment for cancer. Psychosexual difficulties faced by men after diagnosis of, and treatment for prostate cancer, remain largely unaddressed. In addition, there is limited evidence of established interventions or resources that would help men cope with the long term demands of surviving a prostate cancer diagnosis in relation to psychosexual difficulties. Hence, this programme of work seeks to explore the views of men and Health Care Professionals to establish a firm foundation of new knowledge that will inform the development and evaluation of appropriate and acceptable patient resources for men following a diagnosis of, and treatment for, prostate cancer.
