Research summary
The study aims to gain insight into service users experience of attending a specialist facial pain management programme, both in terms of attendance of the programe itself, as well as any impact on pain management in day to day life. The study will comprise of 2-3 focus groups of 6-8 adults diagnosed with chronic facial pain. The focus groups will take a semi-structured format and will be facilitated by a specialist clinical psychologist and either a specialist occupational therapist or physiotherapist. The focus groups will last 2 hours and the content will be audio recorded and the facilitators will listen to the recording and pull out key experiential themes. These themes may be useful in informing the content of future facial pain management programmes.
