Research summary
Ensuring that people with dementia eat and drink well whilst in hospital is a challenging issue. This study tests the impact of a sensory-enriched dining experience for people living with dementia who are inpatients in an acute care NHS hospital. A range of sensory materials will be used to encourage older people with dementia to eat and drink whilst in hospital. This will include colourful crockery and easy grip cutlery, fragrance aromas, coloured napkins, Food and drinks pictorial menu board and edible water known as ‘Jelly Drops’.
The impact of this will be assessed using observation, interviews, questionnaire and routine data to measure intake of food and drink before and after taking part in the dining experience.REC name
