  • Research summary

Self-compassion is considered a healthy way of relating to oneself. Self-compassion has been shown to relate to reduced stress, improved coping, and increased treatment adherence in chronic illness populations. Self-compassion may be of particular relevance in inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis. Stress can exacerbate and maintain psoriasis, and may contribute to poor coping and treatment adherence. The proposed study will investigate how trait self-compassion relates to perceived stress, treatment adherence, psoriasis severity, and itch intensity in patients with psoriasis, before assessing the effects of a brief online self-compassion intervention on these outcomes.
