Data collection arrangements
The Scottish Diabetes Research Network epidemiology group database includes information from health records for people with a diagnosis of diabetes in Scotland. It does not include name or address and dates of birth only include month and year apart from for babies. The database includes demographic and clinical information from the diabetes register (SCI-diabetes) with additional information from hospital records, other disease registries (such as the renal and cancer registries), other health records (drug dispensing records, dental records, laboratory results) and death records.
Research programme
The Scottish Diabetes Research Network epidemiology group include academics and clinicians in secondary and primary care from across Scotland and, by extensions, undergraduate and postgraduate students and research fellows who are supervised by members of the group. The group welcomes collaborations and also contributes to international collaborations in which data are analysed locally and aggregated output is meta-analysed. Clear procedures have been agreed with the Public Benefit and Privacy Panel for working with commercial organisations on the basis that commercial organisations do not have direct access to the data.
