  • Research summary

    Research Summary
The current research study will employ a single-case experimental design with two female prisoners who have engaged in over eighteen months of schema therapy. This is the first study of its type within a specialist personality disorder setting for female offenders in the United Kingdom. The study will examine progress in key treatment domains including schema domains, risk, behaviour and symptomatology following completion of schema therapy. The study sample will involve a female personality disorder population based within a closed prison environment. The study will include two single case studies, that will differ in terms of their presenting problems and therefore will be explored within two independent research papers. The first case study, will focus on the theme of undertaking schema therapy with a female prisoner presenting with personality disorder and moderate levels of psychopathy. The second case study, will focus on the theme of undertaking schema therapy with a female prisoner with cognitive functioning difficulties, sporadic substance use and fluctuating motivation. The case studies will anonymise key information to ensure cases are not identifiable. Recommendations on the basis of the findings will be presented.

    Summary of Results
Study terminated prematurely as the staff involved in the research moved posts and no longer works for the organisation.
This had no implications as all data planned to be used in the study was routinely collected as part of their involvement in the service.
