Research summary
Limited research has actually been conducted on factors infulencing patient experience of the sedation techniques used for conscious sedation. For this study we are particularly interested in operator satisfaction and patient experience of these sedation techniques. We want to measure if pre-operative anxiety or memory of the procedure influences satisfaction. Questionnaires will be used to measure patient and operator satisfaction. Data will be recorded on the quality of sedation and the standard monitoring measurement such as pulse and blood pressure.
In the Department of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry clinicians have a variety of sedation techniques that they offer patients. The choice of sedation is made at the assessment appointment depending on the level of anxiety and patient choice.
