  • Research summary

Women attending symptomatic breast clinic visit the surgeon for a consultation when they arrive. They then go for imaging (mammogram and/or ultrasound), and then return to the surgeon for results. This project aims to see if the last phase of the clinic ‘the return to the surgeon for results’ can be eliminated for patients with a normal or benign result and therefore the patient would be sent home by the Radiologist (the doctor trained to look at breast imaging).

It has been observed that a similar system is already in use in other hospital sites, but it is believed from searching the current literature, that feedback on the system has not been obtained. This project will aim to see if women that are discharged straight after imaging (and do not return to the surgeon), are satisfied with the process. The clinicians (surgeons and Radiologist) will also be asked for their feedback.
