Research summary
The proposed study aims to measure peptide levels in the saliva of patients with migraine and control subjects twice daily for four consecutive weeks. Saliva collection is by use of a Salivette system which employs a cotton wool roll which patients chew and saliva is absorbed into the roll. At the laboratory the Salivette is centrifuged, clear saliva obtained and the peptide measured. Patients are requested to keep a migraine diary so that changes in peptide level s can be correlated with the onset of a migraine attack. The study is being funded by a small medical company based in Ireland called Holywood Medical who have shown interest in the study.
