  • Research summary

Using data from inpatient admissions at Salford Royal hospital, this study aims to characterise the use of opioid medication during hospital admissions at Salford Royal by patients both with and without malignancy. The data will be used to compare the occurrence of a range of safety outcomes between patients receiving opioids for non-malignant pain and those not receiving opioids. Additionally the risk of adverse events between types of opioids will be assessed. Using the detailed and comprehensive electronic data from the electronic patient records will allow an accurate comparison between the groups and takes into account the various covariates that affect clinical outcomes.
