Research summary
Hip joint replacements are considered as some of the most successful surgical procedures and are now extensively carried out worldwide. Compared to conventional systematic techniques, recently promoted patient-specific kinematically aligned knee replacement has been shown to generate better overall functional outcomes. This is becoming even more important in the current environment, where patients are younger with higher expectations and when the economic burden of joint replacement and its associated failures is getting alarming. The kinematic alignment technique for total hip arthroplasty only dates from early 2017. As those kinematic techniques are relatively new, their true value remains to be determined. We will compared the outcomes of kinematically aligned total hip arthroplasty (the novel intervention) compared with conventional one (mechanically aligned total hip arthroplasty) to compare the early-term clinical outcomes and acetabular component positioning between kinematically aligned and mechanically aligned total hip arthroplasty.
