Research summary
Frailty is a condition that is increasingly recognised recognised in older people and can lead to problems with walking and everyday activities. The purpose of the study is to test out a series of frailty assessment procedures in older people aged 75 years and over in three different parts of the hospital where clinical care takes place. At the hospital, we have chosen the Accident & Emergency Department, a cardiology ward and the department of surgery. These are all areas where daily routine involvement of specialists in the care of older people (called geriatricians) is not usual. These assessments should also allow us to gain an idea of how common it is to find patients with features of frailty in these clinical areas of the hospital and how useful the specific assessments we have chosen are.
