    1 years, 6 months, 30 days

  • Research summary

The aim of ROMEO trial is to determine whether the delivery of mechanical ventilation based on the concept of ‘lung rest’: ultra-low frequency of respiratory movements (2 breaths per minute) for a minimum of three days of ECMO, increases functional lung recovery, compared to standard ventilation (15-30 breaths per minute) in patients on ECMO for acute severe hypoxaemic respiratory failure.
In this study, the mean airway pressure is maintained and the time to ECMO decannulation as a surrogate outcome measure of recovery.
