Research summary
The aim of this study is to compare the number and functions of some T and B lymphocytes responsible for immune fucntions in healthy controls (HCs) and patients with common variable immune deficiency (CVID) which is a primary immune deficiency. Fresh blood samples from HCs and patients with CVID will be stained for specific markers on these cells and numbers will be assessed by flow cytometry (cell analysis) which is based on specific markers labelled with specific fluorochromes (a fluorescent chemical compound that can re-emit light upon light excitation).
These T and B lymphocytes will be assessed for their cellular, molecular and genetic characteristics in relation to the clinical disease of the patients. We will investigate molecular interactions of these T and B cells with the other immune cells to understand molecular defects involved in the pathogenesis of CVID.REC name
