Research summary
Current practice is to apply a form of compression following any type of operative treatment of varicose veins. The rationale for wearing the stocking is to to reduce bruising, prevent deep vein thrombosis and increase patient's comfort. There is however no robust and reliable evidence on the effectiveness of wearing stocking after varicose veins operations. Besides, some patients do not tolerate compression very well. We feel that this, often expensive compression, may not be necessary following the relatively new method of treatment called Radiofrequency ablation. Some of our patients who abandoned their compression on the first day have not come to any harm. This study is designed to compare patients who received compression with those who have not in terms of patients satisfaction and treatment outcome measured objectively
