• Data collection arrangements

  Tissue that are collected prospectively will always have informed consent and tissue will be shipped to the destinations as per the application stated will have a contractual agreement in place.

  In addition to the ROH, we have an offsite research collection centre / local collaborator at the Birmingham Women and Children Hospital where ROH patients undergo surgery there. Tissue here will be directed to the pathology lab for processing and stored prior to transfer to researchers.

  For tissue that is stored at Arden, these are previously diagnostic tissues which are stored under the HTA consent exemption. A contractual agreement will always be in place prior to the tissue being shipped to their destination. All tissue here are linked anonymised with access to patient data only accessible by ROH personnel.

• Research programme

  We have a wide range of academic institutions and universities which are supported by the bank. The research community therefore conduct a wide range of investigations into biomedicine including and not limited to diagnosis of disease and new treatments as well. THE ROH RTB tissue collection centre at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust in Birmingham is one of the largest orthopaedic centres in Europe. The Trust offers planned specialist care for orthopaedic conditions making us an ideal environment for carrying out clinical research. We work closely with scientific and industry partners, including universities and external medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, to trial cutting edge technologies and treatments and enhance the current understanding of orthopaedic conditions.
